Unless you've been paying careful attention, you may be a bit confused about where the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE came from. What used to be called the M-Class is now the GLE--but is the name the only thing that has changed?
What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE?
The tendency of Mercedes-Benz to name--and then rename--its vehicles can be challenging, but the GLE is not new. What used to be called the Mercedes-Benz M-Class is now broken up into two versions: the GLE SUV and the GLE Coupe. The GLE SUV, in particular, is an updated version of that same M-Class (pre-2016, that is). The GLE SUV has been noticeably updated over the last few years to be a thoroughly modern and sporty design, with all the style and panache you could possibly want. If you're looking for even more style and sportiness, the GLE Coupe takes it to another level with a sloping roofline that's impossible to ignore and virtually impossible to not love. In the GLE SUV line, models are divided further into standard and AMG® models. The entry point to the GLE is therefore the GLE 350, with the all-wheel drive GLE 350 4MATIC® and the GLE 550e Plug-in Hybrid following behind. For the same body style with more power and performance, you then have the AMG® GLE 43, the AMG® GLE 63, and the AMG® GLE 63 S. You'll get just two models in the GLE Coupe lineup, the AMG® GLE 43 Coupe and the AMG® GLE 63 S Coupe.
Why is Mercedes-Benz the Best?
Even though you'll find a vast amount of power and performance in the 2018 GLE, these models remain first and foremost luxury vehicles, and you only need to look inside to realize these models more than live up to their illustrious branding. You'll notice plentiful space for passengers and cargo, with seats that are well-contoured and soft but still supportive enough for long journeys. With the standard suspension, the ride is smooth and comfortable, although it's still able to handle twists and turns without any drama. The materials used and the quality of build is everything you'd expect from a Mercedes, and you won't find any model lacking in standard features and equipment.
Is the Mercedes GLE a 7-Seater?
The Mercedes-Benz SUV models come in five types: the Mercedes G-Class, GLA, GLC, GLE, and GLS. Though you'll notice plenty of room inside the GLE, these models only seat five. If you're looking for an SUV that seats seven in the Mercedes-Benz line, take a look at the GLS models.
