For classic luxury style and cutting-edge technology, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Audi A6 are segment standouts.
Because these two models are such strong competitors, you might be left wondering which is best for you. If that's the case, we can help!
Upscale Style & Comfort
When you're shopping for both style and comfort that will go above and beyond, the newly redesigned E-Class simply can't be beat. Throughout the cabin, the E-Class exhibits unimpeachable craftsmanship, with beautiful finishes that shout luxury and refinement. Mercedes's multi-contour seats supply luxury-level comfort as well as support for hours on end, the perfect road trip or commute vehicle. Stylish leather upholstery satisfies your taste for the finer things. The Audi A6 was also engineered with pure luxury in mind. Add the Comfort Seating package to make the most of your ride, including ventilated front seats to address the challenges of hot days. The A6 also offers a range of cabin materials, including premium leather upholstery, to increase passenger comfort. In our mind, the craftsmanship of the E-Class gives Mercedes-Benz the edge here.
Although this competition was a close one, we favor the A6's modern convenience lineup. From the driver seat, the infotainment pop-up screen is within your line of sight, making it easy to engage with apps like navigation. The touchpad recognizes fingertip scrawls, not unlike your iPad. The cabin's AT&T-based 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot keeps young passengers happily occupied during lengthy rides. When we said that this race was a close one, we meant it. That's because the E-Class's COMAND® infotainment is one of the best in the biz. Its unique touchpad lets you interact with apps using smartphone-like gestures, including pinch-to-zoom and swipe. If you're looking for tech-smart luxury vehicles, these two are the head of the class.
Power & Performance
In power and performance, we favor the E-Class. Its powerful engine uses a nine-speed automatic transmission, which allows quick responses to driver input and equally quick acceleration. With 4MATC® all-wheel drive, the E-Class puts a firmer footprint on the pavement, brushing off wet or icy conditions while giving you enhanced control over performance. Of course, the A6 was also designed to deliver a world-class ride. Its seven-speed automatic isn't quite up to snuff with that of the nine-speed E-Class, but it still provides a silky smooth ride. As with the E-Class, the A6 offers all-wheel-drive performance for increased safety and sportier handling.
As usual, Mercedes-Benz leads the way in terms of safety. When the vehicle senses an oncoming collision, the innovative Pre-Safe Plus system takes action - cinching down seatbelts, adjusting the front passenger seat, and closing windows - to mitigate passenger injury. The surround-view camera system offers a bird's-eye view of your E-Class, so navigating tight parking garages is simple. Similar to the E-Class, the Audi A6 is stacked with driver aids that monitor your surroundings and provide feedback on dangerous situations. The forward collision warning system also fully tightens seatbelts and automatically applies the brakes in an effort to reduce damages. The extra action of the Pre-Safe Plus system tips the scales in the E-Class's favor, though.
Inventory Contact These full-size luxury sedans are both certain to turn heads, but, in the long run, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is our favorite. Inside, luxury interior finishes and top-of-the-line infotainment options keep you comfortable while, under the hood, the E-Class generates enough power for tire-smoking speed while delivering a smooth, comfortable ride.
